Kirsty Kitto

Professor Kirsty Kitto is Professor of Artificial Intelligence in Education at SLATE, the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology at the University of Bergen, having joined in May 2025 from the University of Technology Sydney. Trained as a theoretical physicist, she completed her PhD on modelling complex emergent behaviour before moving into information retrieval, cognitive science, social psychology, educational data science, and learning analytics. Her research focuses on cognition and learning in complex socio-technical systems, with particular interests in data interoperability for lifelong learning, AI and data literacy, learner metacognition, and quantum approaches to modelling contextual cognitive systems.
